Overview

## What single-item collections covers in Manchester

### What the service is
A single-item collection is exactly that: one bulky item removed from your property and disposed of legally. Sofas, mattresses, beds, fridges, freezers, washing machines, wardrobes, televisions, exercise equipment: the things too big for a bin and too heavy for a car.

### Who it's for
Householders, tenants, landlords between lets and anyone who has replaced one item and is now living around the old one. It is also the most common first job people book with us before using us for something bigger.

### When it's needed
When the new sofa is being delivered on Saturday and the old one is still in the living room, when a mattress has to be gone before a check-out inspection, or when the council bulky collection date is weeks away.

### Why professional help matters
One item sounds simple until you try it: hiring a van, getting a tip permit for a non-car vehicle, finding two people to carry a divan down a staircase, and then discovering the recycling centre will not accept it that way. We do it in one visit, with the lifting included and the disposal documented.

Leave it and it costs more

## What happens if it’s left
A single unwanted item is a small problem that stays exactly where it is until somebody with a van deals with it.

- Delivery day arrives with nowhere to put the new item, so the old one ends up in a hallway or a garden for months.
- Mattresses and upholstered furniture stored outside soak up water, grow mould, and become a heavier, dirtier job later.
- An item left on the pavement or in a communal area is fly-tipping, and the penalty attaches to the household it came from.
- Fridges and freezers left in a garden leak refrigerants and are a specific environmental offence if dumped.
- Tenants lose deposit money over one item that was never removed at the end of a tenancy.
### Common mistakes we see

- Hiring a van for the day to move one item: the hire, fuel and permit issues usually cost more than the collection.
- Assuming the household waste recycling centre will take a van or trailer load without a permit.
- Booking a cheap unlicensed collection and having the item dumped locally with your address in it.
- Dragging a divan down a staircase alone. Manual handling injuries from single items are extremely common.

Our process

## How the job runs, start to finish

- 1
### Call or send photos
Tell us the postcode and what needs shifting, or send a couple of photographs. We work out the volume and access from that: no waiting on a surveyor.

- 2
### Fixed price agreed
You get one clear figure before anything is booked, based on volume, weight and access. It does not change unless you add to the job.

- 3
### Time slot confirmed
We confirm a day and a time window, including evenings and weekends, and ring you before we set off so you are not waiting in.

- 4
### Cleared and swept
Our crew does all the carrying and loading, segregates timber and metal for recycling, and brushes the area through before we leave.

- 5
### Legally disposed, documented
The load goes to a licensed commercial waste facility. Pay by card, cash or transfer, and ask for a waste transfer note for your records.

What you get

## Why customers book single-item collections with Fisher

### Fast, often same week

Working 7am to 10pm across seven days means single items can usually be collected within a day or two, and often the same day.

### Clear entry price

£60 for a single item, with a £60 minimum job value. You know the figure before we set off, not after we have loaded.

### Collected from inside

Upstairs, back bedroom, cellar or garden: we carry it out. You do not need to move it to the kerb, and you do not need to help.

### Cheaper if you combine

If you have two or three items, adding them to the same visit is far cheaper than booking separate collections. We will always tell you when that applies.

### Legal disposal on one item too

Even a single mattress goes through the same licensed route as a full clearance, with a waste transfer note available on request.

### No damage on the way out

We break down bed frames and flat-pack where needed rather than forcing items through doorways and marking the walls you are keeping.

In detail

## Single-Item Collections in Manchester: the detail that matters

### Items we collect most often
Single-item work in Manchester is fairly predictable.

- Sofas, corner units, armchairs and recliners
- Mattresses, divan bases and bed frames
- Fridges, freezers, American-style fridge freezers and tumble dryers
- Washing machines, dishwashers and cookers
- Wardrobes, chests of drawers and dressers
- Televisions, treadmills, exercise bikes and garden trampolines

### How single-item pricing works
£60 is the starting point and the minimum job value, and it covers a standard single item collected with normal access. Very large items, a corner sofa, an American fridge freezer, a full bedroom suite treated as one unit, take more space and more crew time, so they are quoted individually. Access matters too: a ground-floor collection with parking outside is quicker than a fourth-floor flat with a shared stairwell, and the quote reflects that honestly up front rather than changing on arrival.

### White goods and electricals
Fridges and freezers contain refrigerant gases and must be handled as WEEE rather than crushed into a mixed load. We separate them out. Washing machines, dryers and cookers are heavy and awkward and are usually a two-person carry, particularly on stairs; again, included in the price rather than a surcharge on the day.

### Flats, stairs and communal access
A lot of Manchester single-item work is in flats and apartments without lifts. We assess the route first, break items down where that is the safer option, and protect communal areas as we carry, because damaging a stairwell to save ten minutes creates a bigger bill for somebody.

### When a single item is really a part load
Sometimes a customer books one item and, when we arrive, there is a garage worth of extras they hoped to squeeze in. That is fine; we would rather requote on the spot and take it all in one visit than leave you with half a problem. We will tell you the revised fixed price before we load anything extra, and it will almost always be less than a second call-out.

Common questions

## Single-Item Collections questions, answered straight
How much is a single item collection? From £60, which is also our minimum job value. Very large single items such as corner sofas or American fridge freezers are quoted individually because they take more space and crew time.

Can you collect today?Often, yes. We work 7am to 10pm seven days a week, so same-day and evening collections are frequently available.

Do you take the item from inside the house?Yes. We collect from wherever the item is, upstairs, in a cellar, in the garden, and the carrying is included.

Do you take mattresses?Yes, mattresses and divan bases are one of our most common single-item collections.

Do you take fridges and freezers?Yes. They are separated as WEEE and handled through the correct disposal route rather than as mixed general waste.

Is it cheaper to book several items at once?Yes, considerably. Two or three items on one visit cost far less than separate collections, so tell us everything you want gone when you call.

Is it cheaper than the council collection? The council can be cheaper per item, but usually has limited dates, item limits and kerbside-only rules. We collect from inside, at a time that suits you, often the same week.

Can you collect from a flat with no lift?Yes. We plan the route, break items down where necessary and protect the communal areas on the way out.

Will I get a waste transfer note?Yes, on request. We are a registered waste carrier and dispose through a licensed facility, even for a single item.

How do I pay?Card, cash or bank transfer on collection.
