Overview

## What dig outs (mini digger) covers in Manchester

### What the service is
A dig out is machine excavation of ground that cannot practically be moved by hand: concrete bases and paths, hardcore, compacted made ground, old patios, root systems and stumps, and reducing levels before turf, paving or a new base goes down. We use a mini digger where access allows, break up what needs breaking, and load the arisings straight into the van so the spoil leaves the site rather than sitting in a heap.

### Who it's for
Homeowners preparing for a patio, garden room or new lawn, builders and trades who need the ground opened and the spoil gone before they start, landlords dealing with sunken or failed surfacing, and commercial clients clearing yards and hardstanding.

### When it's needed
At the start of any outdoor build, or immediately after a demolition or strip out when a base is left behind. It is also the fix when a garden has been repeatedly turfed or paved over decades of buried rubble and simply will not sit level.

### Why professional help matters
Excavation without removal is only half a job, and spoil is heavy, awkward waste that unlicensed operators dump. Fisher Group Services Ltd is an Environment Agency registered waste carrier with public liability insurance and can issue waste transfer notes on request, so the material we dig out is documented from your ground to a licensed facility. Because our disposal runs through our family-run partner site, Skip Co Mcr, heavy loads do not carry the gate-rate mark-up other firms pass on.

Leave it and it costs more

## What happens if it’s left
Ground work is where garden projects quietly go wrong, because the expensive problems are the ones you cannot see from the surface.

- Paving or turf laid over buried rubble and old bases sinks, cracks and has to be lifted again within a year or two.
- Digging by hand in clay and made ground takes days and produces spoil that no household tip will take from a van.
- Hiring plant yourself means transport, fuel, operating risk and still no way to get rid of the arisings.
- Spoil left on site during a build blocks access, gets walked through the property and stops other trades working.
- Excavated waste passed to an unlicensed carrier is still legally traceable back to you.
### Common mistakes we see

- Assuming a garden is soil all the way down; in most Manchester terraces it is not.
- Booking a digger and a skip separately and paying twice for the same access constraint.
- Reducing levels without thinking about where water will then run.
- Cutting a stump at ground level and paving over it, then dealing with the settlement later.

Our process

## How the job runs, start to finish

- 1
### Call or send photos
Tell us the postcode and what needs shifting, or send a couple of photographs. We work out the volume and access from that: no waiting on a surveyor.

- 2
### Fixed price agreed
You get one clear figure before anything is booked, based on volume, weight and access. It does not change unless you add to the job.

- 3
### Time slot confirmed
We confirm a day and a time window, including evenings and weekends, and ring you before we set off so you are not waiting in.

- 4
### Cleared and swept
Our crew does all the carrying and loading, segregates timber and metal for recycling, and brushes the area through before we leave.

- 5
### Legally disposed, documented
The load goes to a licensed commercial waste facility. Pay by card, cash or transfer, and ask for a waste transfer note for your records.

What you get

## Why customers book dig outs (mini digger) with Fisher

### Machine speed, not shovel speed

A mini digger does in an afternoon what takes a fortnight by hand, which is usually the difference between a project that happens and one that stalls.

### Excavated and taken away together

The arisings go straight into the van. There is no spoil heap left on your drive and no second firm needed to remove it.

### Access-aware planning

We check gate widths, side passages and surfaces before we book. Where a machine genuinely cannot get in, we say so and quote the job as hand dig rather than turn up and improvise.

### Clean, correct levels

Ground is taken to the depth the next stage needs, whether that is sub-base for paving, topsoil for turf or a clean formation for a base.

### Licensed disposal, documented

Registered waste carrier, public liability insured, company number 17117250, with waste transfer notes on request.

### Seven days a week

Working 7am to 10pm every day means ground work can run at weekends and around other trades on site.

In detail

## Dig Outs (Mini Digger) in Manchester: the detail that matters

### Typical dig-out work
If it is in the ground, heavy, and stopping the next stage, it is a dig out.

- Concrete shed and garage bases
- Old patios, paths, driveways and slabbed areas
- Hardcore, ash and made ground under gardens
- Tree roots, stumps and heavy root plates
- Reducing levels for turf, paving or a garden room base
- Trenching and opening up ground for other trades

### Access decides the machine
Mini diggers are chosen because they fit where larger plant cannot, but a machine still needs a route in. Standard side passages, a gate that can come off its hinges, or a shared entry are usually workable; a first-floor flat garden or a fully enclosed courtyard is not. We work that out before booking, using photographs or a quick look, so the price you are given is the price for the job as it actually is.

### What comes out and where it goes
Excavated material is separated where it is worth separating: clean rubble and hardcore behave differently to mixed spoil, and timber and metal pulled out of the ground go for recycling. The rest goes to a licensed commercial waste facility. This is heavy waste, so the weight rather than the volume drives the price; that is why we quote each dig out individually rather than publishing a flat figure.

### Working alongside other trades
A large share of dig-out work is done for builders, landscapers and property developers who want the ground opened, the base out and the spoil gone before their own crew arrives. We can attend early, work out of hours and leave the site swept so the next trade starts on a clean formation.

Common questions

## Dig Outs (Mini Digger) questions, answered straight
How big is the mini digger and will it fit through my gate?Mini diggers are chosen specifically for tight domestic access, but we still check the route in before booking. Send a photograph of the access point and we will tell you honestly whether it is machine work or hand dig.

Do you take the spoil away?Yes. Excavation and removal are quoted as one job and the arisings are loaded straight into the van and taken to a licensed facility.

How much does a dig out cost?It is priced on depth, area, what is in the ground, access and above all weight. There is a £60 minimum job value and every dig out is quoted individually, because scope changes the cost significantly.

Can you remove a concrete base?Yes. Bases are broken up and removed, and the ground beneath is levelled ready for whatever goes back down.

Do you remove tree stumps?Yes, where the stump can be safely excavated by machine and there is nothing structural or serviced in the way.

Will you damage my lawn or driveway getting in?We use boards and plan the route to protect surfaces, and we will point out anything we think is a genuine risk before we start rather than after.

Can you dig out and then landscape?Yes. Most people book a dig out alongside light landscaping, or take the Full Outdoor Transformation package so the strip out, dig out, clearance and finish are one price.

Do you provide waste paperwork?Yes. Waste transfer notes are available on request, and our carrier registration and insurance details can be provided before we attend.
